DoNER Minister Reviews NE Projects Worth Rs 3,108 Crore, Stresses Faster Implementation

Shillong: Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Sukanta Majumdar chaired a high-level review meeting in Shillong to assess the progress of projects being monitored under the PM-Ref Portal across various schemes of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), officials said on Wednesday.
A total of 17 major projects, with an estimated sanctioned cost of around Rs 3,108 crore, were reviewed during the meeting.
These projects are currently being implemented across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura.
Taking to X afterwards, the DoNER Minister said: “Visited the office of the North Eastern Council in Shillong today and had an insightful interaction with the officials.”
He said it was encouraging to see the dedicated efforts being made to transform regional development across the northeastern region and to address key developmental needs.
He further said: “Also received valuable feedback from the officials on important projects and the procedures for faster implementation and operationalisation of project proposals.”
According to an official statement issued by the DoNER Ministry, Majumdar, who also serves as Union Minister of State for Education, reviewed the implementation status of projects being monitored through the PM-Ref Portal under different schemes of the Ministry.
During the review meeting, the Minister stressed the importance of timely project execution, robust monitoring mechanisms, and stronger inter-departmental coordination to ensure the speedy completion of developmental initiatives across the northeastern states.
The Minister also met with senior officials and reviewed key initiatives to strengthen institutional coordination and accelerate developmental efforts in the region.
“The visit by the Minister reaffirmed the commitment to inclusive growth, regional progress, and sustainable development in the region,” the ministry statement said.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, the DoNER Ministry Secretary, Sanjay Jaju, visited several northeastern states, including Mizoram and Tripura, to review ongoing projects under various schemes.
During his visit to Mizoram, Jaju met with Chief Minister Lalduhoma to discuss a range of developmental projects underway in the state.
A senior Mizoram government official said the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the DoNER Ministry for approving the North Eastern Council-funded project titled “Sustainable Cultivation of Mizo Ginger USP”.
The Chief Minister noted that Mizoram produces high-quality and organically pure ginger and highlighted that NITI Aayog has recognised the state as the “Ginger Capital of India”.
He added that the sanctioned funding would significantly benefit ginger cultivators across the state and strengthen the agricultural economy.
Lalduhoma also raised concerns regarding the need for a more systematic and transparent implementation of the 10 per cent Gross Budgetary Support.
In response, the DoNER Secretary assured the state government that the matter would be examined carefully, the official said.
Under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (Roads), officials discussed extending the Khankawn to Rongura Hmun road by approximately 1.70 km to connect it with the Thenzawl–Buarpui Intermediate Lane.
The proposed extension is expected to substantially improve regional connectivity and benefit local residents.
The Chief Minister urged the DoNER Ministry to consider the proposal favourably, and the Secretary assured that necessary steps would be initiated in this regard.
Jaju also informed the Chief Minister that efforts are underway to attract private investment for the development and upgradation of the Thenzawl Golf Resort.
In addition, both sides reviewed several pending projects under various DoNER schemes concerning the Mizoram government.
