Bengal: Kakoli Ghosh Again Writes To Speaker Seeking Kalyan Banerjee’s Expulsion From LS

Kolkata: Four time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member and current leader of the rebel party MPs in the lower house of Parliament has sent a fresh letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking expulsion of another four time Lok Sabha member, Kalyan Banerjee.
In the letter dated June 10, which surfaced on Monday, Ghosh Dastidar accused Banerjee of repeated verbal abuse, misogynistic comments and misconduct within the precincts of the Lok Sabha, as she had raised in her previous complaint to Birla on May 28.
In the letter, Ghosh Dastidar pointed out that on several occasions Banerjee used objectionable, disrespectful and inappropriate language against women Members during sittings and proceedings of the House.
“Such conduct is unbecoming of a Member of Parliament and undermines the dignity, decorum and standards of parliamentary debate expected from elected representatives. The conduct complained of is not an isolated incident. Rather, it forms part of a recurring pattern of behaviour wherein Kalyan Banerjee has repeatedly resorted to personal attacks,” read the fresh letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
According to Ghosh Dastidar, such unparliamentary behaviour and language used by Banerjee against women members had a chilling effect on their ability to participate freely and fearlessly in the proceedings of the House. She said it also undermined Parliament’s commitment to provide an environment of dignity and respect to all its members.
She added that the pattern of conduct alleged is not isolated nor inadvertent, but appears deliberate and recurrent, thereby bringing disrepute to Parliament and weakening public confidence in its institutions.
Citing legal provisions for expulsion of a Lok Sabha member, Ghosh Dastidar requested Birla to take cognisance of the repeated verbal abuse and misconduct by Banerjee and recommend punishment or disciplinary action, including his immediate expulsion as a Lok Sabha member.
At the time the report was filed, there was no reaction from Kalyan Banerjee on the matter.
