Himanta Sarma Meets PM Modi; Discusses Assam Flood Recovery Efforts

New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and sought his guidance on the state’s flood recovery efforts, rebuilding plans and key initiatives undertaken by his government during its first 100 days in office.

CM Sarma said the meeting focused primarily on the next phase of Assam’s flood response, including reconstruction of affected areas, restoration of livelihoods and ensuring comprehensive rehabilitation of people impacted by the floods.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said PM Modi had remained in constant touch with the Assam government during the flood situation, closely reviewing developments and extending all possible assistance from the Centre.

“Today in New Delhi, I had the privilege of calling upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji to seek his blessings and guidance,” CM Sarma said.

He said he apprised the Prime Minister of the roadmap prepared by the state government for rebuilding flood-affected areas and restoring normalcy and livelihoods.

According to CM Sarma, PM Modi reaffirmed the Centre’s “unwavering support” to Assam and assured that the Union government would continue to assist the state until the recovery and rehabilitation efforts reach their logical conclusion.

The Chief Minister also briefed PM Modi on the major initiatives undertaken by the Assam government during its first 100 days, aimed at fulfilling the mandate received from the people of the state.

CM Sarma said the initiatives were part of the government’s broader development agenda and its vision of building a “Viksit Assam”.

The meeting comes at a crucial juncture for Assam as the state continues to deal with the aftermath of recurring floods, which have affected communities, infrastructure, agriculture and livelihoods across several districts.

The Chief Minister’s emphasis on rebuilding and livelihood restoration indicates a shift from immediate relief and rescue operations towards long-term rehabilitation and resilience.

CM Sarma thanked the Prime Minister for his continued guidance and support, saying the Centre’s assistance would be critical in taking Assam’s recovery efforts forward.

The Chief Minister has repeatedly stressed the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state to strengthen Assam’s ability to deal with recurring floods while simultaneously maintaining the momentum of infrastructure development and welfare initiatives.

The latest meeting also underlined the close coordination between the BJP-led state government and the Centre on Assam’s development priorities. CM Sarma said he remained committed to translating the government’s mandate into concrete outcomes and advancing the shared vision of a developed Assam.
