Kolkata: Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra on Tuesday faced protests while attending a workers’ conference in Nadia district of West Bengal.
Protests were held around her and the Trinamool MP’s car was surrounded with black flags.
The Krishnanagar Lok Sabha MP was unable to move even after getting into the car after the protest.
There were also allegations that attempts were made to vandalise the car.
It is alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers and supporters carried out this attack and the protest.
Political tension spread in Nadia’s Chapra area on Tuesday due to the incident.
Mahua Moitra has been the victim of protests and attacks several times while visiting the Krishnanagar Parliamentary constituency.
The Trinamool MP approached the Calcutta High Court for security which the latter permitted her.
From now on, there will be two police personnel for the security of the Trinamool MP in Krishnanagar.
Mahua Moitra has accused the BJP regarding Tuesday’s incident where the Trinamool MP attended the party workers’ conference in Chapra block of Nadia district.
Speaking to the media, Mahua Moitra said that the Trinamool workers’ meeting in Chapra block was successful and encouraging.
In the presence of MLAs from Palashipara and Jalangi, a strategy was adopted to rejuvenate the regional organisation.
Regarding the protests surrounding her, the Trinamool MP Moitra said, “This chaos is being created with the help of party (Trinamool Congress) defectors and the BJP.”
Attacking the leaders who left the Trinamool Congress, Mahua Moitra called them ‘dishonest’.
She also mentioned the punitive action against the members of the Zilla Parishad for anti-party activities.
At the same time, she strongly protested the harassment of Trinamool Congress workers by creating police and administrative pressure.
On the other hand, Chapra BJP IT cell in-charge Gopal Das and local resident Ambarjit Roy alleged that Mahua Moitra is behind the unrest, drug trade and extortion politics in the Chapra area.
It has also been claimed that common people have shown this black flag in protest against the accusation of insulting Hindu gods and goddesses and the BJP was not involved in the alleged attack on Mahua Moitra.
