Delhi Man Accused Of Killing Wife Arrested Within 48 Hours Of Murder

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a man accused of murdering his wife in the Seelampur area of the national capital from Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad Railway Station, solving the case within 48 hours of the crime, officials said on Sunday.

The police said the accused had allegedly fled across multiple cities in an attempt to evade arrest before being tracked down through technical surveillance and intelligence inputs.

According to the police, the incident came to light on July 16 at around 7:32 p.m., when Police Station Seelampur received information about the murder of a woman at Gali No. 9 on the third floor of a house in Seelampur’s Gautampuri.

A police team immediately reached the spot and found the 45-year-old woman lying in a pool of blood with grievous injuries. She was rushed to JPC Hospital, where doctors declared her ‘brought dead’.

Following the incident, experts from the Crime Team and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) visited the scene and carefully collected physical and forensic evidence. The body was later shifted to GTB Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case was subsequently registered at Police Station Seelampur, and a detailed investigation was launched. During the initial inquiry, investigators found that the victim’s husband, identified as 52-year-old Saleem, had gone missing immediately after the incident, making him the prime suspect in the case.

Considering the seriousness of the crime, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Narpal Singh was constituted. The team included Inspector Abhishek, Sub-Inspector Sudhanshu, Head Constables Navneesh, Krishan and Manish, along with Constable Sachin, under the close supervision of ACP Seelampur Malkiyat Singh.

As part of the investigation, the police meticulously analysed CCTV footage from multiple locations, examined technical evidence, verified human intelligence inputs and tracked the suspect’s movements across different places, officials said.

Continuous surveillance and sustained efforts eventually enabled the team to trace the accused to the vicinity of Moradabad Railway Station in Uttar Pradesh, where he was successfully apprehended, they added.

During sustained interrogation, Saleem allegedly confessed to committing the crime.

According to the police, he disclosed that his wife had previously worked at a garment factory and that he had long suspected her of having an illicit relationship with one of her co-workers. Investigators said this suspicion had repeatedly led to domestic disputes between the couple.

Police said that on July 16, the couple again became involved in a heated argument over the same issue. According to the accused’s statement, he attacked his wife in a fit of rage using a pair of scissors, inflicting multiple injuries. Believing that she had died after she stopped moving, he allegedly locked the house and fled the scene.

Investigators further revealed that in an effort to avoid arrest, the accused kept changing locations and travelled through Anand Vihar, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Shahjahanpur and Lucknow before eventually returning towards Moradabad, where he was arrested by the police team.

The police also recovered the alleged weapon of offence, a pair of scissors, along with blood-stained clothes from the accused’s possession.

Officials said further investigation into the case is continuing.
